There has always been good and bad, hot and cold and up and down.  We are often reminded that opposites bring balance to the universe. It seems normal that left needs right, and our crops need both sun and rain. But do we really need unethical people who do unspeakable deeds to  know what is right and to take right action?  Perhaps, maybe, time will tell.

It seems that when the teeter totter of nice and evil is heavy on the evil side, the nice side rises up to meet the challenge. Metaphor aside, there seems to be more emphasis on what goodness is, when badness is running rampant. When our moral compass is not challenged, love and logic is quieter, sometimes silent. However, when the values and beliefs of kind, compassionate people is twisted, broken, and disguised for power and selfish gain, the downtrodden, eventually, find their voice.

Great leadership and effective change often emerge as a result of bad times and poor leadership. Easy times often create soft people, while difficult times build strong people. It seems to be a repeating cycle. What if challenges could lead to better times without complacency.  Let’s face it, we can always improve as individuals, as nations, or as humans. Throughout history when the corrupt control the media, truth eventually found it’s way to the ears of the hopeful, and to those willing to act regardless of dangerous consequences. History shows that we rally to meet a crisis, whether that crisis is man-made or an act of nature.

Will we evolve into a species which seeks consistent personal growth without the catalyst of mass suffering?  Will there be enough empathy and love to tip the teeter totter scales so that human rights and social equality weigh in more importantly than economic growth for the few?  When will the wealthy, the educated, and the advantaged fight for the less privileged, the tired, and the unrepresented?

It is happening all over the world. People are fighting for love by shedding their fears. Unhealthy leadership spreads the narrative of fear, while creating a common enemy. Healthy leaders spread hope, solutions, and encourage unity. While the greedy are still prevalent, the selfless are more abundant. We only need to believe in our ability together to shape the reality we want. There is no small act that does not make a difference. All loving action regardless of whether we are in good times or battling daunting challenges, moves us forward as a species. Moving towards what we love rather than away from what we fear is a worthy distinction and an act of courage. While the universe may be neutral, human nature struggles, rebels, and rejoices in tipping the scales in favor of good over bad. It is our way, to have reverence for the planet, imagination for positive change, and love for each other.
